I know.
I KNOW.
It’s still November. You don’t want to read these words. But if you’re a quilter, or if you’ve been in a craft store in the past 3 months, you know it’s time to start planning for homemade Christmas presents.
First off, consider the gift recipient. I’ve gifted everything from finished projects to a “make your own” kit. Probably my favorite gift was the quilt top I made for my sister. We went to the fabric store together to pick out backing and binding, then we went to the quilter together to choose her pantograph. It became not just a project, but quality time and memories. It made me smile to teach her about my craft, and while she’ll never become a quilter herself, she now understands and appreciates the process a bit more.
Some people, like my sister, are never and will never be quilters. So what’s the right gift for them? Do they love Christmas? If so, check out these Christmas projects!
Poinsettia Tree Skirt
A Christmas tree skirt is a great idea for a newly married couple who needs some heirlooms to pass on, maybe even with some matching ornaments. Tree skirts can also be modified into a table topper for a lovely decoration.
If you decide to make a finished project for them, consider the space restrictions and colors in their home. Don’t be afraid to ask questions about their favorite colors or whether they enjoy “useful” or “pretty” presents. If the answer happens to be "both", our pattern A Little of This, A Little of That would be a great option!
A Little of This, A Little of That
Coworkers or Secret Santa gifts can often be hard to choose. Why not stitch up a quick mug rug, and add a cute mug filled with treats? You can design your mug rug using our blocks. A six inch block with borders is an excellent size for a mug rug; any larger than 10” and you’re leaning into placemat territory.
If your loved one is crafty and has mentioned wanting to learn English Paper Piecing, our EPP starter kit has everything they need to start!
Our website hosts an array of options for your gifting and making needs. If you need shopping help, one of our fantastic customer service associates will be happy to make recommendations, or even build a surprise package for your loved one!
