Designer Royalty Program

Bring Your EPP Design to Life with Paper Pieces

Have an English Paper Piecing design in mind? We’d love to see it.

Through our Designer Royalty Program, Paper Pieces works with independent pattern designers to create custom Paper Piece Packs and Acrylic Templates for their EPP patterns. You create the pattern and keep selling it through your own website. We manufacture and fulfill the coordinating products, link customers back to you for the pattern, and pay you royalties on qualifying product sales.

How the Partnership Works

You design it. We make the pieces.

1. Submit your design
Send us your concept, pattern draft, mockup, or finished project.

2. We review it together
We’ll look at the design, required shapes, project size, and how it fits within the Paper Pieces product line.

3. We create the coordinating products
Our team develops the custom Paper Piece Pack and coordinating Acrylic Templates.

4. We manufacture + fulfill
Paper Pieces handles production, inventory, fulfillment, and customer service for the Paper Pieces products.

5. You earn royalties
You receive a royalty on qualifying sales of the coordinating Paper Pieces products on a quarterly basis.

6. We send pattern customers back to you
Your pattern remains your product. We link customers directly to your website to purchase it.

What We’re Looking For

What makes a great Paper Pieces project?

We’re especially interested in designs that:

  • Are designed specifically for English Paper Piecing
  • Offer a clear reason to use pre-cut Paper Pieces
  • Have a strong, recognizable visual identity
  • Introduce an interesting layout, shape combination, or approach to EPP
  • Can be clearly written and illustrated for the intended skill level
  • Feel distinct from projects already available through Paper Pieces
  • Have realistic piece counts and construction requirements for the intended customer
  • Can support a coordinating Paper Piece Pack and, when useful, Acrylic Templates
  • Are original work that the designer has the rights to publish and sell

Your design does not need to be completely finished before you reach out. Early concepts are welcome if the overall design and construction are developed enough for us to understand the project.

Our Review Process

A great design may still need adjustments before it is a good fit for production. When reviewing a project, our team considers:

Originality
Does the project bring something new or clearly differentiated to our current assortment?

EPP suitability
Does English Paper Piecing make sense for the construction of the project?

Customer appeal
Can we clearly identify the stitcher this project is for?

Production feasibility
Can the Paper Pieces and templates be manufactured accurately and at a reasonable retail price?

Complexity
Are the piece count, shapes, instructions, and overall construction appropriate for the intended skill level?

Commercial fit
Does the project complement the existing Paper Pieces line without substantially duplicating another current product?

Pattern readiness
Is the designer able to provide a professionally written and tested pattern before launch?

Partnership fit
Can both teams support the project with the communication, assets, and promotion needed for a successful launch?

A submission is not a guarantee of acceptance.

Paper Pieces may approve a project as submitted, suggest changes, place a project on hold, or decline a submission based on our current product assortment, production capacity, launch calendar, or overall fit.

A declined project does not necessarily reflect the quality of the design. Sometimes we may already have a similar project in development, have too many projects using a particular shape or style, or simply not have room in the current schedule.

Your pattern stays yours.

Participating in the Paper Pieces Designer Royalty Program does not mean giving up ownership of your pattern.

You continue to:

  • Own your pattern and design
  • Sell the pattern through your own website
  • Set your own pattern pricing
  • Maintain your own brand and customer relationships

Paper Pieces produces and sells the coordinating Paper Piece Packs and related products covered by your individual partnership agreement.

I’d have your attorney eventually review the exact legal language for this section, especially around IP, exclusivity and derivative products.

What We’ll Need From You

Once a project is accepted, designers should be prepared to provide:

  • Final pattern manuscript
  • Final project dimensions
  • Complete Paper Piece quantities
  • Shape names and sizes
  • Fabric requirements
  • Clear diagrams or construction information
  • High-resolution project photography or other agreed-upon launch assets
  • Product and pattern links
  • Reasonable participation in launch promotion

Patterns must be professionally edited before release.

After Your Design Is Accepted

Once a project is approved for the Paper Pieces Designer Royalty Program, we’ll provide a formal Operating Agreement outlining the partnership, royalty terms, responsibilities, and product details.

At that time, we’ll also need:

  • Your logo files
  • A short designer bio
  • Website and social links
  • A completed W-9, if you are based in the United States
  • Any additional launch assets requested for your project

Pricing + Launch

Paper Pieces will determine the final minimum advertised retail price (MSRP) for all coordinating Paper Piece Packs, Acrylic Templates, and other Paper Pieces-produced products, as well as the official launch date for the collaboration.

Launch timing will be coordinated with the designer, but final scheduling will be determined by Paper Pieces based on production capacity, inventory readiness, marketing calendar, and other business considerations.
